William Bert Welch, son of William Benton Welch & Sarah Elizabeth Morman. He married Elsie Mae Coleman 9 Sep 1929 in Chandler, Texas. They had one son, Charles Benton Welch
(6 Feb 1931 - 5 Dec 1973) and 3 grandsons: Wesley Mike Welch (10 Jul 1954), Ronald Dale Welch (25 May 1958) & Gary Wayne Welch (5 Sep 1961)
Bert took great pride in the fact that during the Depression
he was able to pay cash for the materials to build a four
room home on the land that he had inherited from his parents.
He built the house himself (with a little help).
Bert moved to Port Arthur, Texas about 1939 where he worked for Gulf Oil Co. until he retired in 1960. They moved back to Chandler and built a home on the Old Welch Farm where they resided until 1973.
Bert married Edna Jo Harrison Kidd 25 Feb 1998. They had 11 happy years together. Bert was a contented man in his twilight years.
Bert Celebrated his 100th birthday July 2009 with a party at the Chandler Methodist Church. It was attended by more than 100 friends and family. His mind was sharp until the very end. He stated, "I'm ready to go!"
