Son of Alvin Carter STORIE and Verda Victoria "Vickie" MATNEY. Married and divorced Beulah "Irene" YATES. Father of one daughter. Remarried. Houston did sheetrock and drywall work in Maryland and N. C. Houston was on a 24- hour-hold in the Watauga County Jail for public intoxication, when he suffered a seizure and was taken to the Watauga Medical Center where he died the following morning. After an investigation, the SBI reported that Houston died of natural causes.

Mr. Houston M. Storie, 60, of 410 E. King St., Boone, died Tuesday morning, April 27, at Watauga Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 18, 1932, in the Matney community of Watauga County, a son of the last Alvin and Victoria Matney Storie. He was the owner of Storie's Drywall and a member of Westside Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Pat Storie of Route 5, Morganton; his former wife, Irene Storie of Valdese; one sister, Betty Bumgarner of Banner Elk; and three brothers, Homer Storie of Lenoir, Douglas Storie of Banner Elk and John Storie of Johnson City, Tenn. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Gladys Morris; and one brother, Mr. Eugene Storie.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. Officiating will be Dr. Steven Carreker and the Rev. Jim Thompson. Burial will follow in the Liberty United Methodist Church cemetery in Matney.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Service. At other times, friends may call at the home of Douglas and Edna Storie off N.C. 194 in Matney.

Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Lavola Carender, Route 3, Box 860, Banner Elk, N.C. 28604.
