Frank Joseph Mushalik and Doris Leila Stroop were married on 4 May 1935 in Cristobal, Canal Zone, Panama - Panama Canal Commission, License #8838

Frank was born Frank Joseph Muschalik on 28 Apr 1910, at home, at 65 Mason Street, Portland, Multnomah, Oregon. Although he wasn't officially on the 1910 U. S. Census, the enumeration date of 20 Apr 1910 was eight days before his birth.

He shows on the 1920 U. S. Census for Portland, Multnomah, Oregon, on 6 Jan 1920. His name shows as "Frank Muschalik".

He shows on the 1930 U. S. Census for the U.S. Naval Station, Yerba Buena Island, San Francisco, San Francisco Co., California, on 4 Apr 1930. His name shows as "Frank J. Mushalik".

He shows on the 1940 U. S. Census for Colon Naval Radio Reservation, Cristobal, Panama Canal Zone, on 1 Apr 1940, along with wife, Doris L. Mushalik. His name shows as "Frank J. Mushalik".

Have not found in the newly released 1950 U.S. Census. He was on leave and traveling to visit brother Paul in New Jersey, before going to San Diego, California for new assignment. Wife and two daughters have also not been found. They were in the Panama Canal Zone on 1 Apr 1950 and then traveling by ship to San Diego, California from 18 April to 24 April.

Frank Joseph Mushalik died in Kaiser Hospital, San Rafael, Marin, California, on 15 Sep 1994; he was 84. His remains were cremated. On 5 Dec 1994, his ashes were scattered at sea by the U.S. Navy near Okinawa, Japan.

The spelling of Frank's last name was changed when he joined the U. S. Navy in 1926. They made a mistake and processed all his papers without the "C". Frank did not point out the mistake and started using the new spelling. It is thought that he probably did not want to "make waves" (pun intended) because he had lied about his age when he joined, saying he was 17. However, he was only 16. He had his mother sign a paper indicating he was 17. All his 200+ Navy papers, from the National Archives, show his birth year as 1909. As indicated above, his birth year was actually 1910.

At age 14, before he joined the Navy, he joined a carnival where he was a "shill". He would pretend to be a customer, win a prize at one of the games to show how easy it was, and then take the prize "backstage" and go do it again!
