Clarence Willis McAlister, 78 , of 220 New Prospect Church Road, Anderson, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 1996 at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Anderson County, he was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and was retired from Singer Company. He was self-employed.

Surviving are widow, Marie Pelfrey McAlister of the home; sons, Melvin McAlister of Surfside Beach, Jerry McAlister of Calhoun Falls, Gerald McAlister of Iva, Larry McAlister and David McAlister of Anderson and Jack McAlister of Tallapossa, Ga.; brothers, Calvin, Charles and the Rev. Hugh McAlister all of Anderson, sisters, Eunice Aiken, Catherine Taylor and Betty McLees, all of Anderson, Evelyn Coster of Greenville; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was a son of the late Paul T. and Eva Black McAlister. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gene, James and Paul McAlister.

Services are at 1 p.m. Sunday at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Hugh McAlister; burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family is at the home. Flowers are optional. The family suggest that memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, Anderson Chapter, 1020 S. McDuffie Street, Anderson, S.C. 29624.
