His father was Rev. Prof. Adolph Baltzer, formerly of Germany, and for a number of years the minister of Evangelical Friedens Church near St. Charles, Mo, on the Plank Road. He was also professor of theology in the German Evangelical Theological College of Warren county, located near Marthasville. When he died in January 1880 he was president of Evangelical Synod of North American. Louise's mother was Louisa Van Laer, formerly of Germany who died in 1871. Louise Baltzer Jens was one of 13 children.
