Charles was the older of two children born to Wirt Fruit and Helen (Schaffer) Buchanan of Grove City, Mercer County, Pennsylvania.
He was a 1934 graduate of Grove City High School and retired from Cooper Energy Services after 42 years as a machinist.
Charles was a member of the Branchton United Methodist Church and served as a lay minister at Methodist Churches in Petrolia, Ridgeville, Fairview, Bruin and Pardoe. He also belonged to Grove Ctiy Lodge 603 F&AM.
He married Ruth G. (Thompson) Buchanan on June 15, 1940.
