Mrs. Louisa Byars Passes To Reward

Mrs. Louisa C. Byars, age 91, one of Lawrence county's oldest and beloved women, died at her home two miles north-west of town Monday night following an extended illness.

Mrs. Byars was born in Pike County, was married in Jefferson and as a young woman moved to Franklin County where she lived with her husband, John A. Byars, who preceded her to the great beyond, June 1, for many years before moving to Lawrence County in 1896.

She is survived by the following sons and daughters; J.D.L. Byars, Snow Hill, Ala., James W. Byars, Russellville, George D. Byars, Moulton, Mrs. Mary Walker, Elgin, Tex., Mrs. L.E. Hurst, Decatur, Mrs. Dora Stansel, Texokla, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Carrie Barker of Moulton, Rt. 4. There are 66 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren living. THere are also many friends of this grand old mother who regret to learn of her passing.

Funeral services were conducted by Robt. B. Henderson Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the family cemetery near the residence.

Mrs. Byars achieved the distiction, probably an all time record in Alabama, of living longer as the wife of her only husband than any other of her sex has done. She lived more than 72 years with her husband whom she married at the age of 18 in the year 1867.

Note: There is no name or date of this newspaper obituary. This is from her great granddaughter.
