Former West Store Owner Dies Nov. 20

Frank J. Cocek, 83 of 207 W. Broadway died at 2:23 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20 in the West Hospital.

Mr. Cocek was born in Ennis and had lived in the West area for the past 75 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he was an usher.

He married Rosy Peters July 7, 1919, at West. She died March 16, 1978.

Mr. Cocek owned and operated the Famous Drygoods Store in West from 1932 to 1974.

He was a veteran of World War I and a member of VFW Post 4819 and the American Legion Boyd Sykora Karlik Post 478.

He was a member and recording secretary of SPJST Lodge No. 54.

Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kotch Funeral Home Chapel, West, Rev. George Doskocil. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in West, Rev. Gene Shepard as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Bernard Cocek of Carrollton; two daughters, Ruth Ammeter of Royse City, Mrs. Virginia Pickel of Fair Oaks, Calif.; one brother, Albin Cocek of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Bledsoe of Austin; nine grandchildren.

Active pallbearers: W.O. Montgomery, James Quilter, Henry Lednicky, Bruce Cocek, D. Lesie Ammetter, Jeffery Ammetter.

Honorary pallbearers: Joseph Holasek, Jerome Lednicky, Charlie Smajstrla and Jerome Kopecky.
