Funeral service for A.F. Carter III, 57, of Orangeburg, will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Terry Peele and the Rev. Freemon Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Carter died Friday afternoon.
He was born in Columbia, a son of Ruby Carter Till and the late A.F. Carter Jr. He was a prominent Orangeburg attorney. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a BS in accounting and received his Juris Doctorate at the Law School of the University of South Carolina. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he mentored to troubled youth. Mr. Carter attended Cornerstone Community Church and was a member of Promise Keepers. He was a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, BPOE Lodge No. 897, Mason and member of Shibboleth Lodge No. 28 where he served as past chaplain. Mr. Carter was a decorated U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Anne D. Carter, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Angus "Gus" Faust (Elizabeth) Carter IV, of Swansea; daughters, Mrs. Dodd (Kelli) Stewart and Miss Kaysey Ashley Carter, both of Orangeburg; his mother of Orangeburg; brother and sister-in-law, Michael (Wendy) Carter, of Orangeburg; sister, Rachael C. Miller, of Charleston; brother and sister-in-law, L. Boyce (Mary) Till, of Orangeburg; five grandchildren, Sarah-Emily Carter, Angus Faust (Austan) Carter V, of Swansea, Dodd C. Stewart Jr., Mary Carter Stewart and Anna Claire Stewart, of Orangeburg.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home.
