At this point in time we do not know WHO the maternal grandparents of John Jr. were but his paternal grandparents were Champion OR D./Daniel Champion McEntire, b 1806/05/07 in Rutherford Co, NC; died 03-02-1879 in Bruno, Marion Co., AR; AND his wife, Sarah Black (Waters) McEntire, born 10-16-1806 Rutherford Co., NC; died d 05-01/02-1888/89 Bruno, Marion Co., AR. Both Champion AND Sarah are buried in the Bruno Cemetery, Marion Co., AR. Champion and Sarah were married on 09-10-1831 Rutherford Co, NC and had 07 children.

Champion and Sarah, and their 07 children traveled by wagon from NC to AR. On January 10, 1846, they arrived in Yellville, AR where they lived for one year, prior to moving to Bruno, (which until 1885 was actually called Ebbing Springs). Champion was a farmer, wagon maker, and Postmaster.

John Jr.'s parents were John Oliver McEntire, Sr., born 1832 Rutherford Co., NC; died after 1866 of Miner's Fever (now known as tuberculosis) in Salt Lake City, UT, and is buried in an unmarked soldier's grave. John Sr. was married to Elizabeth (Watkins/Wadkins) McEntire on a wagon-train, by the wagon master on 12-22-1859. Elizabeth born Nov. 1827/1831/1837 or 10-1839 NC or TN
or 1841 TN (gravestone shows 1827); died 04-09-1930 Anderson Flats, Marion Co., AR, and is buried in the Bruno Cemetery, Marion Co., AR.

John Sr. AND Elizabeth searched for gold for 7 years in 5 states or territories, finding gold in MT in 1865. John Sr. AND Elizabeth had 5 children during those years:

1. James ‘Jim A.or M. McEntire, born 10-18-1860 CA, married #1 Margaret ‘Maggie' Ethal Keeter, born 1869 Rutherford Co., NC.
2. William Champion ‘W.C./Uncle Bill' McEntire, born 12-20/22-1861 in CO/NE Territory , died 02-12-1949 Bruno, Marion Co., AR, married to Winnie (Suggs).
3. Alice Katherine ‘Kate' (McEntire), born 09-26-1862/3 in CO/NE Territory, married to Nathan ‘Butch' Kyles.
4. George McEntire, born 01-14-1865, never married.
5. John Oliver McEntire, Jr., born 11-24-1866 in MT territory, or obit says CA, died 02-22-1945 of stroke/cancer of the mouth –age 79; Verona, Marion Co., AR, buried Bruno Cemetery, Bruno, Marion Co., AR, At age 26, John Jr. was married to a neighbor, almost 18 year old Lucy Wade (Nowlin), on 10-17-1892 @ Thomas Nowlin's by J.L. Lowery. Lucy born 12-03-1874 Rutherford Co., NC, died 06-23-1956 - age 81, Holt, Clay Co., MO, of Stomach Cancer, buried New Hope Cemetery., Holt, Clay Co., MO.

After John Sr.'s death in Utah, John Jr. and his 4 siblings were brought to Arkansas by their Mother Elizabeth, driving her own Covered Wagon, arriving circa July or August 1867, when John Jr. was only 9 months old.

Elizabeth and the 5 children homesteaded land and built a one-room log cabin near Eros, AR, where they all grew up and married or moved away, except for John Jr. and Elizabeth.

After John Jr. and Lucy's marriage, they had 10 children while living in this same cabin with John Jr.'s mother Elizabeth:
