BOWDOIN - Lloyd Charles Williams Sr., 79, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at his home. He was born in Livermore Falls on Aug. 18, 1929, a son of Carroll Percy and Violet Alice (Chase) Williams.
Lloyd served his country in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with three stars, a Purple Heart and Presidential Citation with one star.
Lloyd and Winona had a good life together, doing everything together. Lloyd loved to hunt, fish and go camping. He and Winona did the Pow Wow together for 10 years. He was employed by the VA at Togus for 34 years and eight months, retiring at the age of 55.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Winona York Williams, of Bowdoin; six children, Steven, Daniel, Robert, Lloyd Jr., Donald and Wanda; his sister, Lois; a brother, George; a half-brother and sister; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a lot of nieces and nephews.
His brother, MSgt Ronald Williams, predeceased him.
He was A committal service with military honors will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. (Kennebec Journal 1/22/2009)
