Amos S. Tharp, 75, retired Wells county farmer, died from a heart attack shortly before noon Wednesday, while fishing at Muskellonge lake near Warsaw. He had been in apparent good health when he left for the lake.

Born Dec. 28, 1864 in Jackson township, Wells county, he was the son of A.B. and Irena Ricketts Tharp. His marriage was to Amanda Laudenschlager on May 9, 1899 (sic).

Mr. Tharp went out on the lake alone in a boat leaving his wife on the shore. When his wife heard him cry out she rushed for help. The body was found tloating on the lake near the boat. An attending physician said death was due to a heart attack.

Surviving are the widow, and three children, Frank L. Tharp, Seminole, Okla, Alvin A. Tharp, Fort Wayne and Mrs. Hilda R. Swager, Anderson.

He was a member of the I.O.O.F lodge at Warren and had spent most of his life in Wells county. He had been active in the management of ther Farmer's Equity Exchange elevator in Warren before his retirement and was road supervisor in Wells county for several years.

Funeral services will be held Satuday afteroon at 2 p.m. (CST) at the residence, six miles southeast of Warren, with the Rev. George McKinly of Poneta officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlway cemetery at Warren.

Amos Tharp Rites Will Be Saturday

Death Occurs Wednesday Due Heart Attack While Fishing

Funeral services for Amos Tharp, 75, retired Wells county farmer, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the residence, southeast of Warren in Jackson township, in charge of Rev. George McKinley and Rev. A. L. Wooten. Burial will be in the Woodlawn cemetery at Warren.

Mr. Tharp died at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday when he fell from his boat while fishing alone on Muskeolnge lake six miles south of Warsaw. Dr. Leslie A. Laird, Kosciusko county coroner, held that death was due to a heart ailment.

Mrs. Tharp, who was sitting in their automobile on the north shore, said she heard her husband shout for help. There are on cottages on the lake, and she was forced to travel over the fields to a farm house about a half-mile away to summon aid. Olney B. Clase, a farmer, and James Hettler, a milk route driver, recovered the body.

The decedent was born Dec. 28, 1864, in Jackson township to Armstead B. and Irene Ricketts Tharp and had resided most of his life in this county. His marriage to Amanda Laudenschlager, who survives, took place May 9, 1889.

Mr. Tharp was at one time sectional gravel road supervisor in Jackson township. He served also a number of years as a member of the county council of Wells county.

Surviving beside the widow are two sons, Frank L. Tharp, of Seminole, Okla., and Alvin A. Tharp, of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Mrs. Hilda Swagger, of Anderson, and eight grandchildren. Twelve brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Tharp was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge at Warren.
