JuanNell Gonzales, 77, of Melrose, New Mexico, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at her home in Melrose. She was born March 30, 1932, in Lockney, Texas to Barron and Irene Mathis Eubanks.
She was the owner and operator of the Phillips 66 Gas Station in Melrose from 1972 to 1986, where she did all ranges of work including changing truck tires. She also managed the Allsups Store in Melrose for 17 years. When she retired, she went on to be active in the Senior Citizens Center and had a new hobby, quilting. She also loved sewing, was a master seamstress and an incredible cook. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Melrose.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Dena Ashley of Melrose, Jan Ashley of San Antonio, Texas, and Shelly Bruce (Gary) of Melrose; 2 sons, Lonnie Ashley of Melrose and Jerry Ashley (Lona) of Levelland, Texas; 2 sisters, Darla Cochran (Larry) of Clovis and Paula Sisneros (Alex) of Portales; 5 brothers, Billy Ray Eubanks (Wilma) of Olton, Texas, Don Eubanks (Betty) of Irving, Texas, Lanny Eubanks (Carol) of Shallowater, Texas, Kenny Eubanks (Gail) of Lubbock, Texas, and David Eubanks (Erlene) of Portales, New Mexico; 16 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Gale Eubanks and Roy Eubanks and her husband, Billy Joe Gonzales.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 P. M. Saturday, November 14, 2009, at Melrose Church of Christ with Otho Rogers officiating. Cremation has taken place and burial of the cremated remains will follow at Melrose Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jordan Beard Fund at American Heritage Bank in Melrose.
