September 27, 1991 FERRUM -The funeral for Mrs. Hattie Mae Via Handy, 85, of Ferrum, who died Friday, Sept 27 in a local nursing home was conducted Monday, Sept. 30 at Arrington-Bussey Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, by the Rev. William H. Shively. Burial was in Franklin Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Willard Via, Glenn Via, Greg Handy, Ty Handy, Marvin Young and Gene Parker. She was the widow of James Andrew Handy. Survivors include five sons, Lewis Randolph (Randy) Handy of Danville, William J. (Bill) Handy of Warner-Robins, Ga., James Lynwood Handy of Martinsville and Roger Clay Handy and Harold Douglas Handy, both of Ferrum; eight grandchildren; one brother, Frank Via of Henry; four sisters, Betty V. Gordon of High Point, N. C., Minnie V. Young of Henry, Mildred V. Moore of Martinsville and Della V. Handy of Collinsville; and two sisters-in-law, Lessie Guilliams of Henry and Iva Via of Rocky Mount. Arrington-Bussey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
