Mr. Handy was born in Ferrum, VA on September 23, 1935, a son of the late James A. Handy and Hattie May Via Handy.
He graduated from Ferrum College in l956 and served in the U. S. Army for four years. He retired from Dibrell Brothers Tobacco Company after 30 years serving as Vice-President in the Data Processing Department. Besides his parents he is predeceased by a brother, Bill Handy. Mr. Handy is survived by his wife Peggy Akers Handy of 57 years, his only child, Tyler Akers Handy and his wife Melanie and their two children Jonah and Abigail Handy., Also surviving are three brothers, Roger Handy, Harold Handy, Lynwood Handy. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 from the graveside at Mountain View Cemetery. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Handy family.
