Dixie's parents were Veda Cordelia Lipham and Charles Adolphus Ross. Dixie, along with her sisters, Vicki and Betsy Ross were singers and contortionists; they played in "Broadway Rhythm" and later moved to Europe where they appeared in "Piccadilly Hayride."

1930 (8 Apr) US Federal Census:
Family living in Precinct 4, Scurry County, Texas. Family includes Charles H Ross/27 as Head of Household, a farmer; his wife Veda/24 and three daughters, Betsy Ann (3 and 9/12); Victoria (2 and 4/12) and Dixie J (8 months).

Dear Find A Grave,

I just submitted a correction for Dixie Jewell Ross (1929 - 1963)

The middle name on her Texas birth certificate is spelled "Jewell" with two "l's" — Dixie is the youngest of three surviving daughters. the oldest daughter died as a baby within her first year of life: Dorothy Jean Ross (1924-1925).

The Stage Names for the 3 Ross Sisters are, from oldest to youngest Aggie (Betsy Ann) Maggie (Vicki) and Elmira (Dixie Jewell).

I've been able to positively ID "Vicki" because she appeared on the TV show "What's My Line" in 1957. She is the tallest sister. And I'm sure that the youngest sister is also the shortest sister.

I'm sure of this, because I have a wedding photo of Betsy Ann Ross with her husband Burnice Robert Hightower (1919 - 1970)

If you've seen the famous "Potato Salad" routine at YouTube, the 3 sisters enter the stage from (your) Left to Right: Vicki, Dixie, and Betsy (stage names: Maggie, Elmira, and Aggie). The Song and Dance starts at 1:25 — it's pretty entertaining if you haven't seen it.

That said, the photo of Dixie Jewell Ross ... is NOT Dixie Jewell Ross. Instead it's her oldest sister Betsy Ann Ross — the photo is not the best for ID purposes, because the facial features are not well defined.

Finally, at FamilySearch, org, whenever an EDIT is made, a BOX like the one (that I'm writing in right now) appears, where the person submitting an EDIT Change gives a reason why the EDIT is Correct!

Of course, I was able to simply submit the Name Change without explanation. So how are you at Find A Grave going to know if my Edit Change is correct? Unless I give documentation to back it?

It will save you much RESEARCH TIME vetting each submitted edit change, if you simply add a box (like this one) that asks for a "REASON WHY THIS EDITING CHANGE IS CORRECT"

Here is my documentation for my submitted changes:

How do I know which sister is which? Here's Eva Vicki Ross in the TV What's My Line:

And here is a link to Ancestry.com that has a wedding photo of Betsy Ann and her husband:
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/65350150/person/30134340126

At Ancestry Betsy Ann's name is listed as "Eva Betsy Ann." Eva is indeed her Birth Name, but her parents decided to call her "Betsy Ann" in the 1930 U.S. Census.

Curiously, Betsy's younger sister Vicki decided to call herself "Eva" later in life, because Betsy Ann decided to take on the name of her older sister who died as a baby — Dorothy Jean.

Because the Mother of the Ross Sisters believed in Reincarnation, being a devotee of the baha'i faith, this is the reason why Betsy took on the name of her dead older sister, because her mother likely taught the impressionable daughters that Betsy was really "Dorothy Jean" reincarnated. So when Betsy took on the name Dorothy Jean, then Vicki follow suit by taking on Betsy's birth name "Eva" — and you can see that she really did go by Eva in the 1957 TV clip of "What's My Line."
