GIDEON VAN LOON
Gideon Van Loon, son-in-law of William Van Loon, and a resident of the Oakdale neighborhood, south of Knoxville, died at Mercy hospital in Des Moines, Wednesday, February 13, aged 69 years, 10 months and 11 days.
The deceased became ill three weeks previous to his death with a carbuncle on the back of his neck. Owing to the roads being snowbound, he delayed coming to town to consult a doctor, finally coming to see Dr. Mater, who then could do nothing for him, and took him to Des Moines, where he died Wednesday at the hospital.
The deceased was born on a farm two and one-half miles west of Pella, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Miss Nellie Van Loon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Van Loon on February 4, 1895. They lived at Chariton for a few years, after which they moved to a farm south of Oakdale, which was the residence of the family at the time of his death.
Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Van Loon, six of whom are living: Harry Van Loon, Rock Island, Ill.; Avis, wife of Olin Gifford, south of Pleasantville; Iva, wife of Worth Brause, Rock Island, Ill.; Myrtle, Geneva and William Van Loon, at home.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 15, at 1 p.m., from the funeral parlors of Bybee & Davis, conducted by Rev. Tom Patterson, of Des Moines. Interment was in the Oakdale cemetery.
