Marcellus Observer March 7, 1923.

Mrs. Dwight D. Amidon died Monday, March 5, at 2 a. m., at the home near Otisco Crossing, Marcellus, her illness of comparatively short duration, though she had enjoyed less than her usual vigor several years past. She was Alice Webster, her family of the same strain as Daniel Webster, the family home in Fabius, and she was born there December 8, 1848. Hers was a large family of girls and one brother. One or more of the sisters are living. She was married January 7, 1869 to Dwight D. Amidon and they were located on the farm which they later sold to his brother, William D. Amidon, and they came to the Isaiah Spinks' place on West Hill, Marcellus, which they sold to Gowland, on retiring. Both have been active members of the M. E. church. Surviving are the husband, one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Spade and 3 sons, Morris, Monroe and Morton. A daughter, Mattie, died age 3, between Monroe and Morton. This child's remains were moved from Pine Ridge to a new lot in Highland provided for the family. Funeral was held Thursday, March 8 at 1 p. m., Rev. C. C. Gustin in charge, very privately and quietly owing to the critical illness of Mr. Amidon. Her three sons and nephew Enric Hackford, acted as bearers. H. S. Jones Sons directed the funeral. She has had the faithful care of the family, with Dr. Lowell her physician, and Mrs. Shafer and Miss Donahue as nurses. They are still with Mr. Amidon. Mrs. Amidon was mother of one of the families who have made for the best of life in Marcellus during their entire lives, and her passing might be stated as untimely because friends enjoyed her association of these latter years and had hoped for many more to come.
