He was a farmer and rancher. He was a life member of VFW and a member of the Church of Christ of LeQuire.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of the home; one daughter, Juanita Faye Shoemake of Montana; four brothers, Henry Burns of Fort Worth, Texas, Charles Burns of Red Oak, Oklahoma, Hershel Burns of Oklahoma City and Vernon Burns of LeFlore; and a host of nieces and nephews.
