Husband of Elizabeth Real. Son of William Harned and Rosannah Schyrock.

From his obituary:
Thomas was born on May 16, 1798, in Loudoun Co., Virginia. He married Elizabeth Real on Apr. 26, 1821, in Crawford Co., Indiana. Thomas and Elizabeth lived near his father, William, in Orange Co., Indiana. The Harned Chapel Church stood where Thomas lived, on the land he donated for it. In the 1850 Orange Co., Indiana census the family is living in Southeast Twp., in dwelling #160. Their daughter, Mary, had died in 1849, and her husband and children were also living with them - a total of 14 in the household. The family moved to Iowa in 1861, into the neighborhood of Columbia. They finally settled a few miles northeast of that village in Marion County. A good share of the family followed by covered wagon route about the same time, and moved into the same region.
Thomas and Elizabeth both died near Columbia, she on Nov. 24, 1870, and he on Aug. 22, 1884. Thomas had remarried to Jerusha Johnson in November of 1871. Thomas and Elizabeth are buried at the Oak Dale Cemetery near Columbia, as are many of the other Harneds of this family. His second wife was buried in another county with her first husband. Thomas was a good, tried, and true man of God.
