Mahala Sutherland Boston is the daughter of John and Abrilla (Prather) Sutherland. She married George W. Boston on 10 Aug 1821 in Franklin County, Kentucky. They later made their home in Anderson County in that state. They moved their family to Hancock County, Illinois, in about 1836 where they remained the rest of their lives. He purchased land in southeastern Carthage Township in 1841. Two acres of that land became the home for the Old Brick Church and Cemetery which served his family and neighbors for many years. Their children include: William Hickman, Ermerald C., Minerva Ann, Reuben Jefferson, Frances M., Amerial Elizabeth, John H., Nancy Jane, Martha C., James Wesley, Narcissa Adeline, George W. and Squire W.

We do not have death records verifying their burial in Old Brick Church Cemetery, but given the timing of their deaths, their role in the development of the church and cemetery, and the fact that many stones were destroyed during several years of neglect, the family believes they are buried here.
