John H. Boston is the son of George W. Boston and Mahala (Sutherland) Boston, early pioneers of the Middle Creek area in Hancock County, Illinois. Born in Kentucky, John and his family moved to Illinois in 1836. On March 19, 1868, he married Charlotte Fletcher and they settled on a farm about 5 miles southeast of Carthage, Illinois. There they raised a family of seven, having lost 3 additional children in their infancy.
