Ellen is one of two unnamed infants of C.W. Nance, as given in cemetery records, who were originally interred in Nashville City Cemetery – one on June 25, 1853 and the other on May 5, 1855. Records of that cemetery give neither name nor age of either infant. The child who was interred in 1853 is identified as a male but this is surely a mistake in the available records. Mt. Olivet records clearly name three children – Alice, Emma and Ellen (all feminine names) – as being interred on June 5, 1874 in the family lot owned by their father in Mt. Olivet. Emma, the only one of the three whose given name appears in City Cemetery records, was most definitely originally interred there in 1855. It seems a logical conclusion that June 5, 1874 must have been the re-interment date of all three children.
