On the day Laura died she was 32 years old, and Ætatis (i.e., Æ, "Aged," in the XX year of her Age, etc.) 33. By the late 1800s the meaning of the symbol Æ for the Latin Ætatis lost its meaning and used as the symbol for one's chronological age at death.
