RESEARCHER---[Booklet] Ina Betts Goodwin wrote in part: In the spring of 1857 Jeremiah & Elizabeth Betts migrated to PolkCnty IA, where they bought 120 acres which had to be cleared & broken, he planted corn & wheat the first year. He continued to clear the land until 1866, he sold it & bought 175 acres in another portion of SaylorTwp, of the 15 children born to them, 6 survive with 35 grandchildren.

JEREMIAH J BETTS: 79; SaylorTwp, died at his home Jan 29 from capillary bronchitis. MrBetts was born in Pennsylvania & moved to town at an early age. He was postmaster at Trent for 20 years & was well-known in pioneer days as landlord of The Betts House.
He is survived by 6 children: JamesW & Shep-perdW-SaylorTwp; MrsD Sharp-E D'Moines; MartinC Betts-Leon; JL Betts-WarrenCnty; & MrsHD Lacey-OK. All but Lacey were present at their father's death.
Interment in Rising Sun Cem.
