Husband of Susan Van Patten Van Patten, he lived about 74 years. He lived most of his life in Glenville, NY but in 1871 he moved to Illinois to be with his Illinois sons. It appears he and Susan separated late in life because he died while living with his son Abram in Malta, Illinois and Susan died 5 years later while living with her daughter Sarah Van Patten Bevis in 1880, in Niskayuna, near Schenectady, NY. Simon's grandfather, Simon Frederick Van Patten, fought in the Revolutionary war and reportedly helped at the Boston Tea Party.
