Prichard police seek killer By schrenk Jettis Holifield gunned down Tuesday night outside gas stationStaff ReportPrichard police are looking for a suspect in the death of Jettis Holifield , 20, who was shot in the head near a gas station on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Tuesday night.
Police said Holifield , of Prichard, was parked at the Stop & Go on the corner of Meaher Street when he was approached by the suspect. Holifield tried to run away but was shot as he fled, authorities said.
The shooting was reported about 10:20 p.m. Holifield was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police Chief Sammie Brown said the motive is unclear, and police are still trying to locate any witnesses.
Preliminary investigations indicated the shooting may have stemmed from an earlier confrontation between the victim and his assailant, said Harry McGadney, city spokesman.
From evidence found on the scene, it appears Holifield was shot with a 9 mm pistol, police said.
