GLENNS FERRY, July 29 – Ernest Eichholz, 86, died at a Nampa hospital Tuesday afternoon after a long illness.

He was born Jan. 16, 1878, in Essen, Germany and came to the United States in 1882, and to Glenns Ferry in 1892. Mr. Eichholz homesteaded land across the river from Glenns Ferry in 1904 and constructed the water wheel which irrigated his farm.

He also was a carpenter and built many of the homes in Glenns Ferry. He retired from farming in 1946. He married Etta E. Latty April 19, 1904, at Glenns Ferry.

Survivors include his widow, four daughters, Mrs. Emma Hall and Mrs. Freida Hall, both Glenns Ferry, and Mrs. Nellie Koontz and Mrs. Margaret Estes, both Baker, Ore.; five sons, George Eichholz and Albert Eichholz, both Glenns Ferry; Fred Eichholz, Gooding; Arthur Eichholz, Pocatello, and Paul Eichholz, Anchorage, Alaska; three sisters, Mrs. Emily Lager, Spokane, and Mrs. Emma Johns and Mrs. Jennie Tillman, both Milwaukee, Wis.; 36 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Bey chapel, Glenns Ferry, by the Rev. Larry Maxwell. Final rites will be conducted in Glenn Rest Cemetery.
