As a young boy, Samuel learned what it was like to operate a farm, working with his father on the Frick homestead.
When the Civil War started, Samuel thought he had to do his part for the Union. On the 13th of March of 1962, Sam enlisted in the Union Army.( No military history at this time.)
When Sam returned home from the war, and had earned enough money, Sam purchased a trek of land to provide for his future family.
On Oct. 13, 1867, in South Bend, Samuel married the former Sarah Carr (1868-1904), The daughter of Daniel and (-) (Snyder) Carr, of South Bend.
Samuel and Sarah were divorced for a short time, then remarried on Dec. 20, 1902.
Samuel found the lord at a young age. The Frick's were members of The Church of the Brethren, in St. Joseph County, and volunteered many hours to insure the church would prosper.
The marriage of Samuel and Sarah was blessed with six children:
Hattie; (1868-___), Died in California.
Elsie L.; (1869-1950)
Delbert D.; (1872-1973)
Gertrude M.:(1874-1953)
Clyde M.; (1876-1944)
Minnie A.; (1882-1961)
On Apr. 28, 1916, in his home in South Bend, Samuel passed away of natural causes, surrounded by his love ones.
Both Samuel an Sarah are buried in Bowman Cemetery, South Bend, Indiana.

Samuel Frick
Samuel Frick, 77 years of age, died Sunday morning at Epworth hospital after a two week's illness. The body was removed to the home of his sister, Mrs. D.F. Reeves, 1527 South Michigan street, from where the funeral will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m., Rev. A. V. Babbs, pastor of Stull Memorial M.E. church, will officiate. Burial will be in Bowman cemetery.
Mr. Frick was born in Stark county Ohio, but had lived in this city nearly all his life.
Surviving are six children, Mrs. H. West, Mrs. Charles VanArdsdale, Mrs. Reeves, and Delbert Frick, all of this city; Clyde M. Frick of Chicago, and Mrs. W.W. Dean, of Pueblo, Colo.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Yonts, of Oklahoma, and five brothers, Manuel Frick, of Lakeville; Joseph and Millard, of Union township, Harvey of Mishawaka, and Alfred, of this city
