He was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Terre Haute, Indiana to Archibald Mathias and Marie Jagodzinski Hoss. He married Mary Ellen Christie on April 15, 1950, in Champaign. She survives.
Also surviving are sons, Albert C. Hoss, Timothy M. (Margie) Hoss, Charles Hoss and Michael (Judy) Hoss, all of Champaign, and Patrick (Amy) Hoss of Seymour; grandchildren Jerry Lighty, Susan Lighty, Timothy Hoss Jr., Jennifer Hoss, Mollie Hoss, Sylvia Hoss, Haley Hoss, Michael Hoss Jr., Riley Hoss, Rennick Hoss, Ramsey Hoss and great-grandchildren Bergen and Mitchell Lighty.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christie Hoss Malloch, on April 7, 2004 and two brothers, Franklin Hoss and Floyd Hoss.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, during which he participated in the D-Day Invasion at Omaha Beach in Normandy.
