In 1880, the family moved to Jewell County, Kansas, where he resided most of his life.
On April 27, 1904 he was married to Clara Louella Korb. To this union five children were born, two dying in infancy.
With his family he moved to Guide Rock, Nebraska in March 1918 where he has since resided.,
His interests were always for the advancement of education and civic improvements in his community. He was a kind, loving husband and father.
He was not a man to boast of his kind deeds - they will always be remembered by those who knew him best.
He passed away on December 21, 1939 at his home in Guide Rock, after an illness of little more than two weeks, of which ten days were spent in the Mary Lanning Hospital at Hastings.
He leaves his wife and three children, Mrs Ira Yates of Mentone, California; Delbert of Burr Oak, Kansas and Vern of Guide Rock; four grandchildren, Laura Lee Yates, Betty June, Thelma Arlene and Billy Benson Kiehl; also two sisters, Mrs Minnie Roberson and Mrs Lula Caldwell of Burr Oak, Kansas; three brothers, Ernest of Parco, Wyoming; Arthur of Burr Oak, Kansas; and Louis of Red Cloud, Nebraska.
Funeral service was held from the Methodist church Sunday, December 24, by the pastor, Rev T L Cochran.
The singers were: Miss Selma Ohmstede, Mrs Opal Britton and Mrs Esther Hunter as pianist.
Hymns, "What a Friend we have in Jesus," "Rose of Sharon," and "Whispering Hope."
The pall bearers were: Gerhard Ohmstede, L W Ely, George Ohmstede, George Darwin, Lloyd Farquhar and Clarence Taylor.
Interment was in the Guide Rock cemetery.
