Johannah Karnatz, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Karnatz, deceased, was born in Germany, June 8, 1856 and passed away at the home of her daughter, Lula Caldwell of Burr Oak, August 8, 1932 at the age of 76 years and two months.
She came to America with her parents in the year 1866. They settled in Cook county, Illinois. She was married to Chas. Kiehl at Blue Island, Illinois. They had been married 51 years at the time of his death in 1922.
They came to Jewell County, Kansas and settled on a homestead and lived there until twenty years ago when they moved to Guide Rock, Neb. Twelve children were born to this union, six of them and her husband having preceded her in death. The remaining children are Minnie Roberson, Arthur Kiehl and Lula Caldwell of Burr Oak; Ernest of Parco, Wyo. William and Louis of Guide Rock, Neb. She is also survived by two brothers, Will Karnatz of Guide Rock and Fred Karnatz of Deweese, Neb. There are also 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In early life she was converted and joined the Evangelical church and in 1919 transferred her membership to the Christian church of Guide Rock. She was always a faithful attendant of this church until ill health prevented.
She will always be remembered by those who knew her best for her helpfulness in the time of trial, in sickness or in death. She was a dependable friend, a good neighbor and wonderful mother.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the M E Church by Rev Ira Wagner and Rev F N Stelson. Interment was made in the Burr Oak cemetery.
