She was the 5th daughter of William and "Edith" (Jacobs) Long.
She married (Jacob) Fredrick Combs (1886-1918), son of Michael and Elizabeth Combs and brother to James W. Combs, husband of her sister, Maude (Long) Combs, in Harrisonburg, Rockingham Co. Va. on April 12, 1910.
Bessie and her husband lived in Harrisonburg, Brock's Gap and Lacey Springs. After his death of the flu, she lived for a time in the home of her grandfather, William Long. She then lived amoung her children. She was a member of the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church of Lacey Springs. Bessie was said to love to crochet; she was a strict disciplinarian.
She died in Culpeper Memorial Hospital. She had fractured her hip (had earlier survived a fracture of the opposite hip) and died of Myocardial Infarction. She had Arteriosclerosis and Diabetes Mellitus.
