"Edith" was the second daughter of John and Eliza (Hockman) Jacobs. Present evidence seems to show that after the death of her mother, she was taken in and raised by her Aunt Matha Ann Carruthers. She married (John) William Long (Feb.15,1850-Mar.22,1937) on Jul. 20,1871 in Rockingham County, Va. William was a blacksmith. They lived in Lacy Springs on land purchased in 1892. Edith was a housewife. She died of "Pyloric Stenosis" and emaciation.
