OUT OF HOWARDS GROVE & NEIGHBORHOOD.
Mr. Gottfried Winkel passed away at 8:30 on Sunday Morning on his old farm in Howards Grove.
The deceased, one of the oldest settlers in Town Herman, was born 14 July 1824 in Briest, in the Province of Brandenburg.
In 1852 he emigrated to America and came immediately to his farm in Town Herman.
On Sept 1854, he was married to Ida Siede who survives.
Mr. & Mrs. Winkel had 14 children. A daughter preceded her father in death. The following children; 4 sons and 8 daughters are all married with the exception of one son. The children are: Mrs. Augusta Krueger, Curtiss, in Clark County; Mrs Ida Minster, Sheboygan; Mrs. Minna Perronne, Town Herman; Mrs. Bertha Rakow, Plymouth; Mrs. Anna Marbes, Milwaukee; Herman Winkel, Town Meeme ; Fred Winkel, Town Schleswig; Mrs B. Grunewald, Town Herman; Mrs. Mary Klueger, Sheboygan; Chas. Winkel, Town Herman; Louis Winkel, Town Herman; Mrs. Sophia Barts, living on the old farm; and Gustav Winkel, Howards Grove.
About 13 years ago Mr. Winkel retired from the farm work as he suffered from asthma. The last years he was less bedridden.
The funeral service was held yesterday afternoon at the home and the body laid to rest on the Ev. Lutheran Cemetery, Howards Grove. The Rev. G. Boit officiated at the service. Nathional Demokrat, 29 Aug. 1903
