Former Dry Goods Merchant Succumbs Wednesday, Aged 84.

KOUTS , Jan. 8 -- Joseph T. Cannon, one-time Kouts dry goods merchant, died at the home of his daughter, Grace, on south Main street, in Kouts, this morning at 8 o'clock. He was 84 years old.
The son of Richard and Nellie Cannon, he was born in La Porte county on July 30, 1857, and at the age of 11 came with parents, both now deceased, to Porter county. In February, 1880, he was married to Bertha Maxwell.
The couple resided on a farm north of Kouts, and 23 years ago moved to Kouts, where Joseph and his son, Lloyd, operated a general dry goods store. Later he made his home on a farm south of this city, near the Kankakee river and 4 and one-half years ago he came back to Kouts to live with his daughter, Grace.
Memorial Saturday
Nine children were born to this union. Mrs. Cannon died on May 30, 1913, and a daughter, Kate died five years later. Son Lloyd passed away August 20 of last year.
Surviving are three sons, Leon and Harry of Kouts and Harold of Crown Point; four daughters, Grace, Mrs. Alma Anderson, Mrs. Ethel Riley and Mrs. Lucille Jarnecke, all of Kouts; three sisters, Mrs. Nautilla Poorman of South Bend, Mrs. Nancy Hail of Shelby, Indiana and Mrs. Emma Hiatt of Knox; 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Cannon home after Friday night and until time of services, which will be held at the residence Saturday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Adams cemetery. Kosanke Brothers are in charge of arrangements.
