Found Dead in a Cellar
Special to the Journal
Newfield, July 10, 1886
Mrs. Susan Colborne [sic], aged seventy-nine years, was found dead in her cellar this morning. She had evidently died last night. The deceased had been twice married but had been a widow for the past five or six years and resided alone. She was an aunt of Mrs. Dr. Winslow, of Ithaca, and sister of Wesley Hamilton, of Lansing. The body was found by Mrs. Cady. Coroner Kyle was notified of the old lady’s death and arrived here this afternoon to look into the case.
The deceased’s first husband was Rev. J.B. Benham, who, for a long time was a missionary in Africa, his wife residing there with him. Her second husband was also a minister. Mrs. Coleborne [sic] was a woman of marked intelligence.
