Dr. George Washington Carter appears in the 1830 US Census for Franklin Co, Tennessee. In the household is his wife and at least three children. According to Franklin Co reconstructed marriage records, he married Nancy Hasty on 04 Oct 1821. Some researchers have named at least three daughters as this couple's eldest children. I have not researched those persons and have not listed them below. The census records do show that Dr. John C. Carter was the eldest son. Nancy Hasty Carter died in Wayne Co, Tennessee on 08 Oct 1850 according to the Caddrick Genealogy as posted on Rootweb. Dr. Carter then married Nancy E. Arnold in Wayne Co in 1851. This is reinforced by the death certificate for the younger Dr. George W. Carter, which shows his mother to be Nancy Arnold. In addition, there was at least twelve years between the ages of each Nancy. No other children were born to Nancy E. Arnold Carter after 1852 that appear in the 1860 US Census for Washington Co, Ark.
According to the 1870 US Census for Washington Co, George W Carter was noted as a "Physician". Known children and according to the 1850 and 1860 US Census for Wayne Co, TN and Washington Co, were Dr. John C. Carter (1829); Benjamin (1831); Lucinda (1835); Charles(1836); Sarah 'Sallie' (1838); Jordan or Gordan (1839); Lewis(1844); Jane (1843); and Dr. George W. Carter, Jr(1852).
