Evalene Newton Altman, 78, of Andrews, the wife of Presley L. Altman went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning, June 1, 2009.

Funeral services will be 2 PM, Thursday, June 4 2009, at the Andrews Church of God. Interment will follow in the Andrews Memorial Cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 7-9 PM, Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at the church sanctuary.

Mrs. Altman, a daughter of Lonnie Legrand Newton and Isolene Ward Newton, was born April 26, 1931, in Andrews. She was a line service operator with Oneita Mills and a member of the Spring Pond Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Evalene and Presley were married on March 29,1954, and celebrated 55 years together. From their blessed union survives two sons, Presley Winston (Susan) Altman of Georgetown, and Steven Douglas (Stephanie) Altman of Andrews; five grandchildren, Nicholas Altman and MaKinley Altman, Melissa Driggers, Kerri Altman, and Dana Altman.

Also surviving are: five brothers, Yoakam (Vera) Newton, Donald (Deborah) Newton, Jerry (Betty) Newton, all of Andrews; Dale (Glenda) Newton of Turbeville and Rev. Ronnie (Shirley) Newton of Hemingway; four sisters, Betty Mae (John) Baylor, Ruthlee (Harry) Howard, Diane (Jamie) McCants, and Rose Carter, all of Andrews.

She was predeceased by his parents and a daughter, Vernie Grace Altman.
