Mrs John Kiefer, 90 . a pioneer of this vicinity, passed away February 12 at the home of her son near Osseo. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 14, 1940.
Alice Leonard was born near Osseo Michigan, Sept.18, 1849, daughter of William Stacy and Samantha (Moon)Leonard.She was united in marriage of John Kiefer, October 19, 1869. IN HILLSDALE COUNTY MICHIGAN.
In 1875 they and their two small children moved their belongings on a wagon, drawn by oxen ,from Ingham county to the farm in Jasper township.Midland county, where they lived until the death of her beloved husband on June 23,1915.
The deceased was a member of the Methodist church in Pleasant Valley, and previous to her declining years was always active in helping those in need.
Surving are one son "WELCOME KEEFER"of Osseo, one daughter, Mrs. Effie L.Vliet of St Louis MI. SEVEN GRANDCHILDREN and several Nieces and Nephews.Including Walter L.Leonard of Detroit MI. William Leonard of St. Louis MI.Her only brother Willard Moon Leonard passed away two years hence in 1938.
Alice Leonard Kiefer,her son Welcome Kiefer,nephew Walter Louis Leonard,cousin Jane Merritt, great niece Mrs. Clarence Niles,Florence J.Huntington Brown all started working on th history to the Leonard family in circa 1915
