From The Superior Express newspaper, Thursday, December 14, 1963, in the "Guess Who" section:

Mary Ann Jensen, married Nels Riber on Oct. 11, 1894. She was born in Vive, Denmark May 20, 1870, and came to the United States in 1888. Her parents remained in Denmark.

Mrs. Riber was the mother of nine children, all of whom are living except Mabel who died during the flu epidemic of 1918. She was taking nurses training at Hebron at the time. The other children are Agnes (Mrs. Chris Martens), Denver; A. William Riber of Hardy; Vera (Mrs. John Kaldahl), Ruskin; Irene, Mrs. Edward J. Nelson), Hardy; Lilly (Mrs. Hans Mikkelsen), Hardy; Wesley of Denver; Oscar of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Esther (Mrs. Addis Jensen) of Ruskin. There are 16 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Riber had two sisters, Mrs. P.H. Petersen (mother of Mrs. Anker B. Petersen) and Mrs. Nels Jaspersen; a brother, Pete Jensen; and a half-brother, Chris Jacobsen, all of whom are deceased.

"Obituary of Mariana Jensen Riber, wife of Nels Riber"
"Mariana Riber, nee Jensen, was born in Vive, Denmark on May 20, 1870. Here she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. In 1888 she came to this community. On October 11, 1894, she was united in marriage with Nels Riber. They established their home on their farm five miles southeast of Ruskin, where they lived until she passed away Sunday morning, November 7, 1943, at the age of 73 yrs, 5 months, and 17 days.
Nine children wereborn to this union. One daughter, Mabel preceded her mother in death in 1918.
Mrs. Riber was a faithful member of the Bethany Lutheran Church. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, a kind friend and neighbor who was ever ready to lend a helping hand whenever the opportunity presented itself.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Nels, eight children: Agnes (Mrs. Chris Martens) of Denver, Colo; Oscar of Denver; Wesley of First View, Colo.; Esther (Mrs. Addis Jensen) of Ruskin; William, Irne (Mrs. Ed Nelson); Vera (Mrs. John Kaldahl); Lillie (Mrs. Hans Mikkelsen all of Hardy, Nebr.; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon by Rev. J. H. Petersen. A quartette composed of Eunice Petersen, Mrs. Chris Houtwed, Anker Petersen and Lawrence Andersen sang, "The Old Rugged Cross," "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Going Down the Valley." Pallbearers were the sons and sons-in-law. Interment was in the Spring Creek Cemetery."
