Elmer B. Dommel

Elmer B. Dommel, of Manor Care, 100 Abbeyville Rd., Lancaster, formerly of 72 Sun Rise Ave., left this world to be with his Loving Savior. His battle with diabetes is over.

He was the husband of the late Dorothy R. (Haas) Dommel. They celebrated their 59th anniversary on June 19, 2006.

He attended the old Lancaster Boys High School and was a US Army veteran of 7 years. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific in field artillery. In 1983, he retired from Armstrong World Industries after 36 years service in Plant Security.

Elmer was a former president of the Ephrata VFW and a member of Landis Valley Mennonite Church.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Elmer B. Dommel who was killed in action during World War I in France, and the late Ida E. Reynolds Singleton.

He is survived by three daughters: June L. married to Clarence Mentzer, Elaine C. married to John Wenger, and Dawn M. married to J. Roy Glick, all of Lancaster; 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Catherine Martin, of Lancaster.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 6-8 PM at Landis Valley Mennonite Church, 2420 Kissel Hill Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601. Friends may call again at the church on Friday from 10-10:30 AM, with the funeral service to follow at 10:30 AM, the Rev. Thomas Horst officiating. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery with military honors provided by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Elmer's memory to Landis Valley Mennonite Church. Arrangements by the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, Lancaster 393-9661.
