The great-granddaughter of Revolutionary War patriots, Lottie Jackson Patterson was a single mother during an era in which single motherhood was uncommon and very difficult. In an era during which women rarely attended college, she felt that education was an extremely important key to life, and showed foresight and wisdom by making it a point to become a secretary to college presidents to obtain reduced tuition rates so her daughters could be college educated. In later life, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Patterson Weaver and Charles Harold Weaver, respectively, and died in their home in Alliance, Ohio. Her favorite activities included reading and listening to opera.
