She married Odell Felton Grady on 4 June 1949 at the Sumiton Baptist Church in Sumiton, Alabama. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1952 from what was then called Howard College (now Samford University). She earned a doctorate degree from the University of Alabama in Education in August 1972. She worked for the Alabama Department of Education as a consultant in Special Education.
