Mrs. Katherine Essex, mother of four local residents, died at 2:45 p.m., Thursday at Franklin in the Johnson County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Essex had been ill since suffering a stroke several weeks ago. She was 87 years old and lived at 510 Campbell Street in Edinburg.
Surviving are six children, Philip R. Essex, 1045 Thirty-Fifth Street, president of Sap's Bakery, Inc., and Thomas Essex, Joy Inn Road, vice-president of the bakery; Mrs. D. J. Carson of Elizabethtown Route 1; Marian Essex of Edinburg; John K. Essex of Phoenix, Arizona; and Mrs. Floyd Lemley of Franklin, 11 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Mrs. Essex was born in Bartholomew County, March 11, 1877 to Samuel and Emeline Rominger Dodd. She was married 1900 to Lex Essex who died December 19, 1944. She was a member of Edinburg Methodist Church and Woman's Society of Christian Service.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday at Mutz Funeral Home in Edinburg by the Rev. B. J. Renner. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery. Persons may call now at the funeral home.
