Funeral services were conducted at the Lyon Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, for Ed Caffee, who died at his home Friday, Oct. 28 at 6 a.m. Death was due to a heart attack. The services were conducted by Dr. J. Chester Badgett, with burial in Brookside Cemetery. Mr. Caffee was born in Adair County, June 21, 1895, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hoskins Caffee. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucy Jane Caffee and one daughter Mary Caffee. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Laverne Pritchard Caffee; three children,Eliza Ann Caffee Dickens and Anna Dean Caffee of Campbellsville; and Maude Eddy Caffee Milby of Cincinnati, Ohio; 4 step-children, Ida Castle, Frank Barnett, Dan Barnett of Los Angeles, Calif., and Marjorie Parrott of Campbellsville; one brother, Himes, of Mannsville; two half-brothers, Ezra Caffee of Mannsville and Morrison Caffee of Louisville; one half-sister, Mrs. Frances Bird, of Louisville. Pallbearers were Paul Coakley, Bud Bryant, David Newcomb, Lynwood Mitchell, Charles Stiles, and John White. Mr. W.H. CAFFEE, of coburg, this county, was married to Miss KATE WATKINS of cane valley, on Tuesday the 24ins Rev. W.B. CAVE officiated. Wayne Howard Caffey/Caffee was born in 1837 and died in 1923. He had three wives: Lucy Emily Pike, Margaret Heims Heskamp, and Elizabeth Kate Watkins and, according to his obituary, 19 children. The problem is that nobody seems to have documented proof as to who his father was. It is speculated that William Samuel Caffey was his father, but, again, no proof. It is also speculated that Jemima Stillwell might be his mother, but Wayne did live in the same household as Jemima in the 1850 census. Wayne served in Co. C, 13th Kentucky Infantry Volunteers during the Civil War and received a pension for doing so. However, nowhere in those pension records is there any mention of his father. Not that there has to be, but one might hope for the mention of one family member or another.
