Adela O. Arvizu 1916-2009
Adela O. Arvizu of Willcox died May 6, 2009 in Tucson at the age of 93. She was born in Tucson on Jan. 1, 1916 to Rafael and Adelida Santa Cruz Ortega.
Adela has lived most of her life in Willcox. She was a member of the Berea Temple now known as First Assembly of God Church in Willcox.
Survivors include her children: Rachel Arvizu, Elidia (Eliseo) Ferrel, Johnny (Marie) Arvizu, Jessie (Richard) Marquez, Melva (Rudy) Romero, Sally (Juan) Moreno, Estella (Johnny) Herrera, Raymond (Mary) Arvizu, Jerry (Peggy) Arvizu, Gracie (Oscar) Murillo and Tony Arvizu. Also surviving are 39 grandchildren, 102 great-grandchildren and 50 great-great-grandchildren and her brother Benny Ortega and sister Maggie Ortega. Preceding her in death was her husband of 53 years Juan V. Arvizu, three grandsons and two granddaughters.
A visitation was held on Sunday, May 10, at Westlawn Chapel with funeral services on Monday, May 11, at First Assembly of God Church. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery.
Services were under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox, Ariz."
Adela died as the result of a Northern Cochise Community Hospital error when a nurse accidentally gave her 2 mg of hydromorphone instead of 2 mg of morphine. The stronger drug was too much for her age and her size. The family prevailed in a law suit against the hospital.
