Mrs. Mabel Amanda Goddard of Carlyle passed away in the Plains Health Centre in Regina on June 17, 1982 following a short illness.

Mrs. Goddard's great great great grandparents immigrated from Germany in 1751. Her grandparents settled on Meisner Island in the municipality of Chester, Nova Scotia. Mrs. Goddard was born February 4, 1896 and shortly after her mother, Amanda Meisner, passed away. Mabel Goddard's father, Calvin Meisner, was a Mariner; thereafter he placed his five daughters in private homes and visited them when his ship landed at the local port.

Mrs. Goddard married Oscar Henry Goddard in 1915. They moved west in 1923 and settled in the Arcola district, later moving to Wordsworth where they raised a family of five boys and five girls.

Mrs. Goddard was widowed by the sudden death of her husband on January 8, 1951. She continued to live at Wordsworth until 1961 when she moved to Carlyle.

When Mrs. Goddard was eighty years old she had the privilege of visiting for the first time, her half brother Byron, in Portland and two half sisters in Seattle. Later she visited her sister Esma in the Boston area.

Mrs. Goddard will be remembered for her unselfish interest in others. Whether it was picking up the mail for a friend or a friendly greeting on the street, she was always thinking of others. This concern for others continued throughout her illness. On Monday evening as a member of her family read the 23rd Psalm and had prayer with her, her words were that she was 'trusting in the Lord'.
