Oscar was the son of Permelia Caroline Goddard and George Wyman Gordon. For a short time, he lived with his mother Permelia and her husband, Alexander Currie, in New Hampshire. Before the age of five, he returned to Canada to live with his widowed Grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Goddard and her daughters, his aunts. Permelia had found herself in an abusive relationship so she gave Oscar her greatest gift (besides life itself), allowing him to return to Canada to be raised by his Grandmother. He escaped the cycle of abuse to become a most loving husband and father.
