William R. DeWitt, 90, Jacksonville, passed away September 6, 2002. The Pensacola, Florida native had lived in Jacksonville since 1956, coming from Germany while in the US Military. He retired from the US Army as a Master Sergeant with 30 yrs of service and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. Mr. DeWitt was a member of Riverview Masonic Lodge #306 F&AM and was a 32nd Degree Master Mason. He was a past Worthy Patron with The OES and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. Survivors include 1 Daughter, Violet L. Sheller; 2 Sons: The Honorable Shelby Highsmith and William R. DeWitt, III; 1 Sister, Edna Fay Lenahan; 1 Brother, Mack DeWitt; 7 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 11, 2002 in the Chapel of Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Ave., with Rev. Doug Pigg officiating.
